WINDINGBROOK R/C FLYING CLUB NEWSLETTER

To:       WRCFC Members
From:  John Perez, President of WRCFC
Topic:  Fall Club Newsletter / 2006

President’s Comments:

Despite some rain the club picnic was a huge success, with about one-third of our membership attending. Joan and Ron Liska once again did a superb job. Our three chefs, trained in Italy, Mo Balboni, John Digiovanni and Ray Morin cooked our food to the ultimate perfection. Steve Swahn provided us with all the necessary creature comforts for us to enjoy our food. My grandson Billy, sold club hats and my daughter Beth, sold 50/50 tickets. A big “thank you“ to the many club members who brought picnic essentials and special dishes to make this a real family style event.
It started to rain just about when the food was being served and tents that were further away were moved closer to the central group so that we were all together as a large family enjoying hobby stories, great company, much laughter and most of all, great food. Considering everything, it all turned out extremely well.
Next year I am planning to have the club picnic on a Saturday with the next day, Sunday, as the rain date. This will have two advantages. First, the field workers are off on Saturdays which hopefully will eliminate any workers on the field during our flying and Second, we will, of course, have a rain date if needed. Live and learn!
I am very pleased to announce that Jim Cyr has accepted the position of Vice President of the Windingbrook R/C Flying Club. I insisted on a working VP, not just a namesake so an outline of his responsibilities and duties are listed below:

1)   He will work with the club Secretary to mail out all club mailings. This would include, but not be limited to, all club newsletters,          flyers, or special events. He will also assist the President with the club membership renewal process.
2)   He will be in charge of the sign up process for all new members. This would include all individuals on the waiting list as well as            those that join "instantly" when our membership is below 165.
3)   He will contribute to our web site with a monthly newsletter.
4)   He will work with the President and other club officers, to help coordinate all club present and future events. This person would        assist the President and other officers in running the club picnic, fun fly or any other club related events.
5)   He will work with the President and other club officers in determining any present or future needs or projects of our club.
6)   He will accept new responsibilities as determined by the President, as necessary. Congratulations Jim, I believe you will do an
       outstanding job.

Flying Field:/ (New Field)

All of our hard work and special efforts to park, fuel, fly and in general do the right thing at our South flying field seems to have paid off for us. We now have permission to move to the North flying field, which does not have the parking problems of our South flying field. There is also a larger runway there and built in shade from the trees in the parking lot. Therefore, all flying will now be at the North field. This is a very big step in re-establishing a trusting relationship between us and the land owner. Please continue to use the utmost care when fueling your planes at the designated area, collecting your trash, wearing your badge and being courteous to the land owner and his workers. This goes a long way in keeping our present flying site.
Under emergency conditions, and only under the direction of a club officer or his appointee may the South field be used, if available.
Club Website: (New Website / Webmaster)

David Teer is no longer our Webmaster. He requested that he be released from his duties as our Club Webmaster and I accepted his resignation. On behalf of myself and our club I would like to thank him for his efforts in this endeavor and wish him well. Since this is no longer our official club website I have asked him to immediately remove all Windingbrook material from this site. Thanks again to Andre Normande for providing the domain space, it was greatly appreciated.
Dick Adamonis, our new Webmaster, has graciously accepted this responsibility and has completely redesigned a new website for us, that we, as a club now own. It was a lot of hard work for Dick but the results are simply spectacular. Dick has also completed a fantastic design for a new club logo which can be viewed on our new site. His efforts are greatly appreciated.
Check out our new site at www.wbrcflyingclub.org My goal is to have a wide variety of club members and their planes pictured on this site which will represent the diverse interests in our club, including of course, those priceless candid shots which make us all chuckle. At our recent picnic, Dick Adamonis, Mike LaPierre, and my daughter, Beth Perez were busy taking pictures of this wonderful event, which from year to year will be preserved in an album for that year. This folks, is what it is all about!
Please send all pictures, comments, or "items for sale" to Dick Adamonis at   rca67@aol.com
Proposed Rule

No personal attacks or derogatory statements by a club member toward another club member shall be tolerated on any venue of the Internet. This would include, but not limited to, message boards, private web sites, or public discussions groups found on the Internet. If after a review of the facts the Advisory Board, by a majority decision, finds "just cause" their club membership would be revoked and the dues for that year returned to them.
Membership News: (Advisory Board)

I have established an Advisory Board, which met for the first time on September 16, 2006 to discuss various club issues. It is made up of club members with various flying interests to advise me on club policy. It will consist of the present five (5) Club Officers and seven (7) Club members. I feel this will reflect a more representative sampling of club interests and opinions. Meetings for this group will be as needed. The President will vote only in the case of a tie. A club member may contact myself or any member on this group with membership concerns which will then be discussed by this group.
The Advisory Board will consist of the following club members in alphabetical order:           (CO)-- Club Officer
  • Mo Balboni__ (CO)
  • Bob Bubello__ (CO)
  • J. Burns
  • Ron Czikowski
  • Jim Cyr__ (CO)
  • Craig Korsen
  • Mike LaPierre
  • Ron Liska
  • Lance Murphy
  • John Perez__ (CO)
  • Fred Schneider
  • Steve Swahn__ (CO)

The term in office for each advisor will be for two (2) years and than a new board will be formed, by popular membership vote, from a list of those club members willing to make up the next Advisory Board.
Club Financial Status:

Our treasury has stabilized and the downward trend has been greatly reduced. This is due to higher dues, initiation fees for new members, early and late fees for new/late members, sales of club logo items and continued efforts to meaningfully reduce our day to day operating expenses.
Related Issues:

NOTICE............ Unauthorized individuals may be flying radio control airplanes at adjacent fields to our flying field. This, of course, is very dangerous for both parties. These people do not have permission to be there and must be asked to leave for their safety and ours. Also, Doug and his sons, Jon and Jack were very pleased to see us wearing our new badges which identifies us as club members. If you go on his property without your badge they will ask you to leave, so to avoid any problems for yourself please wear your badge. They were also very pleased to see us using our present fueling system to protect their grass. Lets continue to "do the right thing" to insure our flying site, which is one of the best in New England.
Club Logo Apparel

The new club hats that David Teer was working on were completed but rejected by me upon final inspection. The quality of the hat was excellent, the total price was good, but for several reasons, listed below, they were not acceptable.
1)  The color of the hat was white. We had specified that they be done in a khaki color, defined in the dictionary as a light yellowish       brown color.
2)  The logo, as given to the manufacturer, had a deep blue background which was completely missing.
3)  The wing feathers of the eagle as given, were black, but now were brown.
4)  The tail feathers of the eagle as given, were white, but now were gray.
5)  "Established 1971" was completely missing.
6)  Our Club name was not contained in the logo but in large blue letters around the eagle.
The manufacturer I felt took to many liberties in their interpretation of what David had given them and our clubs Advisory Council agreed with my action of refusing delivery and furthermore, felt no financial obligation existed between the manufacturer and our club.
